Q. Who gets paid more money? mac programmers at apple or pc programmers at microsoft? i want to know so i can start learning. i currently use both platforms without a favorite. i also was offered a class through apple to take on programming, and a class through a school that i can take for pc programming. please only comment if you know.
"Either company to write software for the mac or pc..."
You don't have to work for either company to write software for the Mac or PC . You can actually write software for both platforms using the right development languages (Java, C, C++, .NET Framework / Mono). In regards to salary, I'm not sure what either company pays, but I would imagine it relatively close. Statistically you will end up working for someone other than either Apple or Microsoft since the vast majority of development jobs are elsewhere.
I am an IT Manager with about fifteen years in the IT world. I've worked jobs from software phone support to software QA to systems engineering to development. I'm not particularly picky about the languages any developer knows as long as he/she is familiar with good programming techniques, has experience with database development and is generally familiar with the languages I need him/her to know. Also, knowledge of the platform being written to (Windows, O/S X, Linux) is very important to me...it's hard to be a great developer if you're not familiar with the platform you're writing for.
I'd suggest sticking with C++, Java or C# (or a C-like language) since they are all widely used, and are all very syntactically and structurally similar .

Q. Programmers, i want to write programs using java, i had textpad installed on my windows computer, have a mac? now any alternatives
You could try Eclipse, it's free and widely used. Have a look at http://devworld.apple.com/tools/eclipse.html, or go to http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/ to get a copy.

"Any mac notebook would meet your needs..."
Any Mac notebook would meet your needs.
But the current "best" one is the 17" Macbook Pro, although my personal choice is the 15" Pro.

Q. I am a windows user, should i jump into the world of mac? i am 25, and up til now, i have always been using windows. after my last laptop broke, i am planning to buy a new laptop. my usage includes work on photoshop, 3d-max, maya & i do like to play some latest 3d games and of course movies... (i am not a computer programmer).......i know mac is expensive, and that's why i am asking this q....i might have to spend >$1600 on mac whereas i can get top of the line laptop with-in $1100...... so, should i plunge in the world of mac? is it worth it or not?
thanks alot! :-)
"Take into consideration these things before you decide to switch to macs..."
By all means, however, take into consideration these things before you decide to switch to Macs.
1. Majority of programs still work on Windows, although some work for Mac, you can't get the latest version or you have to buy a Mac Version which does not have equal capability.
2. You only have only one option when you buy a Mac, you can't have too many choices in terms of hardware choices since Apple sets only limited choices, Windows have many hardware providers so you can choose the best deals to suit your needs. Mac computers are notorious for being expensive and at the same time hardware is not as updated as those for Windows.
3. Although very few viruses are made for Macs, it does not necessarily mean that it is virus-proof, the main reason why there are many viruses for Windwos is that it is more profitable to do so since so many computers can be attacked, since Windows occupies almost 90% of the computers in the world while Macs are less than 10%.

Q. Programmers, java progamming on a mac? this question is has been asked 10.000 times and no one seems to be bale to answer it, or just give a stupid answer.
i have a macbook pro, and for atext editor i have bbedit.
now i have everything i need to be bale to program on the mac, i know where the termianl window is, and it has everything i need.
what i want to know is how do i go to a program that is saved in my documents.
i know ho to compile aprogram, but if the program is saved in documents how do i find it.
imagine that the program is called converter.java and is saved in documents
sorry about the spelling mistakes
cd documents
i see all my files and folders inside documents
but what do i type to compile it
open a terminal
cd ~/Documents
ls | grep Converter.java
All that aside, what you really probably want to do is go to eclipse.org, and download eclipse for Java. Get used to developing in a GUI, because it sounds like your command line skills are weak and that you're having trouble with the way the file system works in BSD.
after additional details:
javac Convertor.java
javac is the command for the compiler and Convertor.java is the name of the file. If you get a CLASSPATH error, we're going to need to do a bit more, try it and come back to me.

Q. Programmers help how do use a mac book pro to write java programs? hi
i have been trying for weeks to write java programs on a mac book pro, i have got a text editor installed, and i know that i dont need a compiler, as i can compile it frm the terminal window.
but when i open the terminal window it gives me this
last login: sat nov 28 15:01:03 on ttys001
tcplusplus's-macbook-pro:~ tcplusplus$
and i did try different commands to get the program to open but to no avail.
i dont mind paying for a program, that i can just type the code, compile, and run it but this is making me regret the fact that i bought a mac.
all i want is to be able to write java programs,
"The mac is a very good platform for developing java programs..."
The Mac is a very good platform for developing Java programs. You may need to install the developer tools from the OS X DVD before you can compile your Java files. In the terminal, type in "javac -version" (without the quotes). If it gives you a version number, then you already have the proper developer tools installed.
If you prefer to use an IDE for development (which I recommend, once you get the hang of doing it on the command line), have a look at Eclipse or Netbeans. Both are freely available for the Mac and provide some very useful features such as code completion, syntax highlighting, and on-the-fly code checking.
