Q. How to keep flees of my dog?

"Solution because it only kills the surface flees on your dogs fur..."

To keep the flees of your dog you also need to keep the flees of your house. Many people would recommend frontline but many studies have shown that frontline only kills the adult flees and it does nothing against the larvae and the cocooned flee eggs that are, most of the times, the main problem. Also, a flee shampoo is also a temporary solution because it only kills the surface flees on your dogs fur , they will probably be back after two hours once the bath is over. The main concern of a dog owner, when he gets flees, should be cleaning the house and getting rid of the flees that now live on your floor, your rugs and even your sofas. The major concern here are the eggs and the larvae that can lead to a major issue and they hide in all sorts of cracks in your floor and in your rugs. The flee cocoons are very resistant and there are not many products that can kill those. The best way is to elaborate a program that includes killing the adult flees by using a product that not only kills the adults but prevents their eggs form hatching and the larvae form spinning their cocoons. A good product for this is Ovitrol spray. Spray in on your floors and rugs and watch out for the new hatching larvae; once they hatch spray them again. Give your dog Sentinel tablets, those will sterilize the fleas in him. Vacuum your house regularly and put some Ovitrol spray on the vacuum cleaners bag to kill the larvae in it. Make sure all your other pets are treated with the Ovitrol and the Sentinel as well. Vera Oak 555863

Q. If my dog has alot of flees can they be passed on to others?
my dog seems to have alot of flees, and although i am trying to control them, for the time being he has many flees. can dogs pass on flees to people. and if so, what are the risks involved in this situation? thanks

yes-Fleas can transmit disease and cause tapeworm, so getting rid of fleas on your pet is a must for a healthy animal and a healthy home. Fleas prefer warm and humid conditions and is therefore more than a seasonal problem in some parts of the country. Follow these steps to help your pet and learn how to get rid of fleas. # he best way to get rid of fleas is by prevention; fleas thrive in heat and humidity (and are most active in summer and fall), so assess your pet and his environment frequently. # Step 2 Help prevent fleas indoors by vacuuming your home thoroughly and frequently, paying close attention to corners, cracks, crevices and basements. Dispose of vacuum cleaner bags conscientiously, as adult fleas can escape. Also, choose your pet's friends wisely; avoid animals you suspect may carry fleas. Dog parks are fun, but a move-able feast for fleas! # Step 3 Remove any fleas from your pet using a fine-toothed pet comb designed for flea removal, and drop the fleas into soapy water to drown them. # Step 4 Wash pet bedding in hot, soapy water weekly; this is the most likely site for flea eggs and larvae. # Step 5 Prune foliage and keep grass trimmed short to increase sunlight, as flea larvae cannot survive in hot, dry areas. Remove any piles of yard debris close to your home. # Step 6 Bathe pets weekly, if possible, to get rid of fleas. If bathing is not an option, speak to your veterinarian about appropriate alternatives. # Step 7 Watch your pet for signs of flea trouble: excessive scratching and biting, especially around the tail and lower back, and possibly raw patches where the animal has been biting and scratching himself. Also watch for 'flea debris' (black, granular dried blood) and fleas themselves on your pet's skin. # Step 8 Talk to your veterinarian about various treatments for your flea-plagued pet: a flea adulticide applied monthly to the skin; a monthly pill that prevents fleas from reproducing but doesn't kill adult fleas; and multipurpose products that prevent flea reproduction and control heartworms, hookworms, whipworms and roundworms. Also consider flea collars and flea powders. # Step 9 Look into chemical flea-treatment products to apply by hand around the environment in spray or powder form. Ask your veterinarian for a recommendation on the best product and how to use it.

Q. What is the best product to use on my dog to control flees?
my poor dog!!!! we have tried everything to get the flees off of him. does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of shampoo, sprays, powders, ect to use? he is miserable and so am i.

Frontline Plus is a spot-on liquid that contains the active ingredients fipronil and S-methoprene. It kills fleas at all stages in their life cycle within 24 to 48 hours, and it's waterproof.Advantage, a spot-on liquid that contains imidacloprid, kills fleas currently on the dog within 12 hours. It's also waterproof.Revolution is a spot-on liquid that uses selamectin and is waterproof.K9 Advantix is a spot-on liquid that has imidacloprid and permethrin.Sentinel is a monthly pill that combines both a flea killer and a heartworm preventative.Program Tabs are monthly pills with lufenuron.Capstar with nitenpyram is a once-a-day pill.If it's not workingIf, despite your best efforts, your dog's still a flea magnet, here's what you need to know to get rid of the infestation. Treat all your pets. If you have more than one animal in the house, you'll have to treat them all to be truly rid of fleas.Treat your house. Foggers and sprays are an effective way to control fleas indoors. Most experts recommend sprays, because foggers can miss crevices where fleas hide. Choose only safe, nontoxic insecticidal sprays for indoor use. It's also a good idea to vacuum thoroughly each week, being sure to get under cushions--a favorite flea hideout. Treat your yard. If you think your yard is where the fleas are coming from, you'll need to treat it, too, with a spray product that kills fleas but is safe for pets and people. Q. Dog flees how to get rid of them and does it effect us?
is there another way to get rid of flees, bar what we can get in the shops....can we get flees from dogs. thanks.

I prefer Advantix/Advantage products for flea control. Vectra is also a good one that is newer on the market. Frontline Plus is okay, but lower on my list. Don't bother with over-the-counter products (flea collars/baths/topicals), especially Hartz and/or Sergeant's products - they do not do the same clinical testing and studies that the products that you get from the veterinarian do. I used to work in an emergency hospital, and I saw several cases come in with toxic side effects from these products. I do NOT trust them one bit. Fleas can and will bite humans, as well. If you're having a problem, you'll need to treat the house by at minimum, vacuuming every day (and disposing of the sealed bag - they'll jump right back out!). A severe infestation may call for pest control/bombing of the home. Be sure to treat all animals in the home with flea treatment appropriate for their size/species, and apply it every 30 days as labeled.

Q. How do i use 20 mule team borax to kill flees on my dog?
how do i use 20 mule team borax to kill flees on my dog?

"I use frontline plus on my dogs to prevent fleas and ticks it..."

PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT...THATS ONLY FOR THE HOUSE AND COULD BE HARMFUL TO YOUR DOG!!!!! I use FRONTLINE PLUS on my dogs to prevent fleas and ticks it also kills the eggs. Its effective with the dog's natural skin oils which means if you just bathed your dog today you MUST wait at least 2 or 3 days to apply it. ($50 BUCKS for 3 doses every three months). DO NOT bathe your dog more than once a month. More than that will dry out his skin, make him extremely itchy and could become severe. I bathe ALL my dogs once a month. 3 days before their frontline dose is due. ******************************************************************* THERE'S ALSO A PILL CALLED CAPSTAR FOR $5 BUCKS. IT ONLY KILLS ALL ADULT FLEAS IN ABOUT 30 MINS. ONLY FLEAS THOUGH. ASK YOUR VET. YOU COULD BUY 2. GIVE HER ONE TMW AND ANOTHER IN ABOUT 4 DAYS JUST IN CASE ANY EGGS HATCHED. GIVE IT WITH A FULL STOMACH. BUT STILL PUT FRONTLINE. THE PILL IS TEMPORARY, MORE FLEA EGGS CAN HATCH AND SURVIVE,THATS WHY YOU SHOULD STILL PUT FRONTLINE. CAPSTAR IS ONLY FOR EMERGENCIES. NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN USE FOREVER LIKE FRONTLINE. NEVER USE HUMAN PRODUCTS ON YOUR DOG, NOT EVEN HUMAN SHAMPOO...CAN BE HARMFUL..

Q. The best way to rid your dog of flees?
anyone know what the best product on the market is to get rid of the flees on your dog? or even maybe a home remedy? i got the house taken care of, but i need to get them all off of my dog. once i do that, i can do the house again and i should be fine. please help !!

I recommend a product called Comfortis. It's new and works the best I've seen against flea infestation. Comfortis is a chewable beef tablet that will drop fleas dead off your dog within an hour! It works faster than any other spot on treatments out there and last for 30 days. You don't have to worry about any oily residue on your dog's coat or the product washing away. Trust me this product works and is worth every penny. You have to purchase it from a vet but usually they will sell it without your pert having to come in. If you start your dog on Comfortis and follow up treatment on the house to be sure all newly hatched fleas(eggs around house usually hatch out.) are destroyed your problems will be solved!

Q. How are flees on a dog like humans on earth?
my science final is to write a 1,000 (no more than 1500) word report on how flees on a dog are like humans on earth. help!!!!

Fleas are parasites that draw blood from the dog (the host). They do not offer any benefit for the dog. Humans naturally cause harm to the earth in order to survive. We often don't consider the results of our actions. We are focused on survival and feasting on what the earth has to offer. We do not benefit the earth. All that we can hope to do as humans is minimize our negative impact on our surroundings. Afterall, we need the earth, like a flea needs a host.

Q. Why does my dog keep getting flees?
my dog, a yorkshire terrier (yorkee) keeps getting flees. ive sprayed here everywhere including top of the head and around the nose with flee-killing spray, and then right after, bath her with flee-killing shampoo. i leave her in the bathroom with the shampoo all over so that it can take affect and bath her and make sure all of the flees are gone. but then, two days later, she gets flees again, and this has happened three or four times already. what do i do?!?

The fleas are living in the house and yard. They're in your carpet, furniture and lawn. You have to treat the whole house, and the whole yard. AND You have to repeat the treatments once a week for a month to kill all the hatchling babies. If you don't do the repeat treatments, hatchlings will repopulate the areas and you'll be back at square 1. Best thing to do is call an exterminator. They can knock down the infestation so you can control it with Frontline. ALSO: Those sprays don't work. Fleas can bathe in those products and be just fine. You need more potent chemicals. Exterminators are your best bet. Get Frontline from your vet. DO NOT use the over the counter flea products. They can be deadly.

Q. What can i use for flees and dog order on my furniture?
o.k smart a---- yes i take him showers and yes that works but 15 minutes in miami heat and humidity don't play flees just got reed of them on him but furniture no.

"So advantix every single month keeps all 6 of my dogs absolutely flea free..."

Only thing that absolutely prevents fleas is a name brand topical liquid put on the back of the dog's neck every single month - I use Advantix, but Frontline Plus is good too. These also prevent ticks and Advantix repels mosquitos too. I also live in Florida where fleas are a year round problem, so Advantix every single month keeps all 6 of my dogs absolutely flea free. Flea collars, shampoos, sprays, shampoo, dips, etc. just kills some adult fleas, they come right back - don't waste your money - get Advantix.
