| | | Shalonda | Q. How to treet dogs?
If you want to get dog you should be very sure of it because always remember expresion that dog is men best friend and that means you should treat him like your best friend :) You can feed him 3 times a day(or 2) you should a lot give him attention you should go to walk with him. It sounds easy but it is not. You can`t put him in house and leave him alone it doesn`t work and your dog won`t be happy than. Caroll Abbot

 Q. Dogs should dogs be able to go on lunges. why
lounge
If you are referring to a lunge line, like they use with horses, yes. It allows the dog to expend excess energy. However, make sure you reverse the direction, to equalize the muscles used. It also has him out with you, and running without pulling.

 Q. Dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? i know, iknow, everyone wants a dog but heres another story about someone wanting a dog. i want one and wanted to know what the average price for a girl dog is, for a boy dog is, for a girl puppy, and a boy puppy. but my dad wont let me have a dog because we live in hawaii and we may move. but he and my mom both had dogs when they were a kid and they always told me one day i could have a dog how can i convince them that now or soon is the time.
How old are you?
The prices are not based on gender, rather on breed and the reputation of the breeder. A responsible breeder vs. an idiot just trying to make some quick cash.
I would suggest you first go to a local shelter or dog rescue. They are free, they are vaccinated, fixed. Rescue groups will often help you with anything you need before and after you adopt the dog, they will make sure you and the dog are a good match. It's like getting a free trainer!

 Q. Dogs!!??!?!?!?!??!??!? :d where can you adopt dogs? location or website or to buy.
You can go to the humane society, breeder, and pet store (be careful of pet stores - usually dogs have a lot of health issues) or you can buy online. Check out www.petfinder.com. They have all sorts of dogs on there. Happy hunting (there are a lot to look through)!

 Q. How to teach big dogs to be considerate of small dogs size? i have a great dane and am getting a small dog (12 pounds). he is very considerate of other dogs when socializing. but- just in case i would like to ask anyone who has a big dog and small dog how they got there big dog to be considerate (not step on, not bite, and to be easy playing) of the small dog. i would like to know about how people taught their big dogs that. also i would like to ask how to introduce a big dog to a small dog. we are getting our small dog second, since we already have a big dog. does that make a difference? thank you.
I used to have two grooming clients. One a great Dane (who has passed away) the other a Papillon (still with me). The Dane used to sit and whimper at the Papillon sitting in his second story drying cage. One day the owner of the Papillon asked if it would be OK to put her little dog down near the Dane for a picture. She did and the Dane was so thrilled he immediately dropped into the play posture, inviting the little guy to play.
I have had several Danes over the years at the groom shop and have only ever seen the gentle side of these giants. A well socialized dog seem to always know what is appropriate to the size of the smaller babies.
Just make sure that you introduce your Dane to the new baby outside of the home and then take them both back home together. Never just drop a new dog of any size into a home where an existing pet has residence.

 Q. How can i fix my dogs unusual behavior? my dog is a minituare schnauzer, but he's really big for a minituare. well my dogs problem is that he always barks and growls at other dogs, even ones that are twice his size. he can't confront other dogs because there either scared of him, or they get pissed off at my dog. there are only a few dogs my dog confront calmly. i think my dog only growls because he's excited, because once he meets the dog he's very gentle and just sniffs around. how do i fix my dogs problem, i know one way to fix it is to get another dog for him to play with. but my family does not want another dog.
it's hard to introduce him to dogs because people just walk away at my barking dog lol.
i have a m. schnauzer myself, and he is like that too. its a natural thing in their breed. especially if your dog is not used to being around other dogs, like mine. i dont think you CAN actually fix it, maybe just train him. schnauzers really are aggressive towards other dogs anyway, so its up to you whether you want your dog to change or just be ''natural''. i'm fine with my dog just like that. i pretend he's protecting me . :)

 Q. How do cats and dogs know which is cat food and which is dog food? i have 2 cats and three dogs. one night, i ran out of cat food (the dry type) and my cats were hungry. so since i had dog food only and the shops were closed, i gave them dog kibbles. they're more or less of the same shape and size and are made of the same ingredients - chicken. my cats took a nibble and refused the rest of the bowl, preferring to go hungry than eat dog food. the next day, i got them a fresh pack of made-for-cats kibbles and they immediately dived in and ate up. how come my cats knew what i gave them wasn't cat food?
i also know of dogs that won't eat cat food for the long run (not mine though, cos they're pigs and will eat anything).
it would be good if a pet food manufacturer can answer this question. is there some special ingredient you put in cat and dog food that makes cats and dogs know which kibbles is who's? also, nowadays, dogs are eating fish too - like salmon. you can't say it's the ingredient. how come they know the difference?
They know, especially dogs. If you leave the cat food bowl on the floor the dog will go after it before it goes for the dog food. Cat food is higher quality ingredients than dog food, and dogs know this because after they try cat food they think it tastes better. Cats usually won't eat the dog food if it is on the floor because of the same reasons. They know the cat food tastes better as well. Here is a solution to keep the dog from eating the cat's food. Put the cat food bowl up on the counter top where the dog can't reach it. Only the cat can jump up there, and the cat won't go near the dogs food bowl on the floor.

 Q. Why is my dog too much shy or submissive with other dogs? my german sherperd dog is already 10 months old. she is still very shy with other dogs. even a very small size dog can chase her. if other dogs approach her aggresively, she submited immediately. i would like her to play with other dogs happily with confidence. most dogs she met in off-leash park were very nice(not as aggressive as she thought). please give me some tips on how to train her to be confident like a gsd should be.
Unfortunately, while GSDs are *supposed* to be confident, many are not. Many in the US are products of back yard breeders and because of this they are prone to improper temperament. Also, at ten months old, she is still very much a baby. You wouldn't expect a toddler to stand up to a bullying teenager no matter how small or dorky that teenager was. It is your job to get in there when other dogs approach her aggressively and get her out of the situation/prevent the other dog from approaching. As someone else mentioned, I would rather have a dog that submits to even the smallest dog than one that is fearful or aggressive to them...especially a breed like the GSD with it's dubious public relations/reputation.
As for increasing confidence, you stepping in and ending the situation when you feel that she is becoming overwhelmed will go a long way. After all, everyone's braver when they know someone's got their back if they should run into trouble. Also, basic obedience will do wonders for a dog's self confidence...especially if you use positive training methods. As she learns what you are asking/expecting of her she will become more confidant as she realizes that she knows what it is you want. GSD's are frequently happy to please their owners and if she knows she's making you happy then she will be more confidant in her abilities.

 Q. What do dog fighters generally do with the ears of the dogs they intend to fight? i saw a pit-bull type dog at the shelter with ears that were docked very short to the head. does this indicate that this dog was used or was intended to be used for dog fighting?
what do dog fighters do with the ears of the dogs anyway? in old days didn't they used to dock them real close to the head?
Most people who get "fighting" breeds crop the ears with no intent on fighting. It just gives the dog a mean, watchdog look (even though they can be super sweet). But since it is at a shelter, why don't you see the staff if they know anything? I kind of doubt it because then it would probably have aggression problems with other dogs and all shelter dogs are tested for that.

 Q. What kind of dogs would make a good indoor pet; with children and cats? we have young children, and quite a few cats (we're a bengal cat breeder). we want a dog that can thrive with the chaos that can often be associated with life with a family. the dog would be fixed. we don't particularly have a ton of spare time, so we don't want a long haired dog, besides the fact i'm somewhat allergic. we don't mind a small dog, but we don't want a yipper. both my husband and i will be working, but it won't ever be alone, it'll always have the cats here, and two of them absolutely adore dogs, if anything, they'll sleep with it and follow it around, play with it. large, or small, it doesn't really matter; but it needs to be somewhat easily trained, especially if a larger dog; we don't have problem putting the time into it that it need to train, but it's going to grow up with young kids, and we need it to pick up new commands with some work. it'll be taken for walks, up to 45 mins a day, but would most likely not have a yard to run in. what dog would suit our needs?
i'll repeat, we don't want a yipper. or a long haired dog. otherwise, we'll all for any ideas.
hope u manage to read this from all those long answers, but I would have to say my bread of dogs. Their beagle/chow mixes and they are so friendly, they love to be petted and dont harm my cats. Truthfully, my cats whack my dogs if they try and sniff them, although my dogs still dont fight them.
Id suggest you look for beagles or beagle/chow mixes because they are nice, like attention, and (as far as im concerned) dont attack cats
