Yes your puppy can give you fleas because he can scratch them out of his coat. So better get him some medication against fleas and help him and yourself too. Flees normally don`t cling to humans. We don`t have fur for them to hide and cling so they tend to just bite us and leave us. They will, of course, bite us and it is very unpleasant and itchy. Vera Oak 555863

Feed Avo-Derm. It is specifically formulated to care for dry skin. I have added vegetable oil to my horse's feed, and they do seem slicker and more shiny, so you may want to try that first. Also, always use a dog shampoo and a dog conditioner. People hair products are the wrong pH and will dry out your dog's coat.

i found a puppy in my yard poor thing, anyway she is scratching real bad ( flakes of skin are falling off like a bad case of dandril } we were told that it was not mange just severe dry skin. but the poor thing is scratching so bad. we were told that she is chow/lab mix. any suggerstions would be nice. we're not rich people so any home remedies or over the counter help prefered. i was told to try an put a raw egg in her food once a week, will this help?

Feed her raw eggs. Until she's better, I'd give her one a day, not one a week! Also animal fats, like chicken. Just put it on her food. Not too much! That would give her diarrhea. Ugh! Maybe a teaspoon. Coconut oil on her skin would be very helpful. It's available at any health food store, and a lot of grocery stores. About 10-12 bucks a pound, which goes a looooong way. She'll lick it off, but don't worry - it will still be doing her good. Feed it to her, too. It's very good for you! Again, not too much at once. Maybe a teaspoon a day. Best thing in the world for sunburn, too! Uh, for people, not dogs. ;-)

the cold winter air and furnace have caused my 12 wk pup to have dry skin/dandruff. the vet tech suggested washing him with dawn. any other recommendations? thanks, i thought the dawn thing seemed a little odd too. i haven't bathed him at all yet. no need to. i've cleaned off his paws when they get muddy but that's it.

You can put some raw egg in his food or give him fish oil pills in his food. I would never ever wash my dog in Dawn. I don't know what your vet is on but Dawn destroys the natural oils in the skin and coat which is only going to make the dry skin worse. I would use an oatmeal shampoo.

the breeder had him on pedigree chum puppy food which i know is rubbish so i now have him on symply a better quality food with vitamins especially for dry skin but after a month it still hasnt improved - i've try adding oils to his food and it doesnt work his coat is really shiny and he's very healthy so i have no worries on that side any other things i can try?

Try Wellness, my puppy is on it and she LOVES it. No wheat, corn, soy, artificial colors or flavors, and no by-products. Its a five star dry food, and the Wellness wet food is three or four stars, still good. You can even see real peices of carrots in her wet food. She also had dry skin/dandruff and she still has a bit, but not nearly as bad as before. Canidae and Blue Buffalo are also great. Orijen too. EDIT: Also as said above, feeding him raw food is also great.

A good oil will help. Cod or flax seed oil would be best. Add a little to the food. I would say depending on size...a small dog 1/2 teaspoon or really big dog 1 table spoon.A lot of pet health food stores see mixed oil that contains omega 3 and 6 which are very good for your puppies skin and what you are looking for. So basically any fish or nut oil that contains the omegas. Also if you buy it from these stores they will have how much you should give according to weight on their bottles if it troubles you. Also do not give too many baths as it can strip the natural oils from the skin.

we have a 3 month old golden retriver puppy. i have only given him one bath since we got him and that was over a month ago. i am in the process of switching him off pedigree dog food(which the breeder had him on) to diamond naturals. will switching him to this better food help with his skin? or is his skin just dry because it is winter and is so cold and dry anyways? he is not itching or anything, just very flaky. does adding oil to his food help? if so what kind is best to add?

try adding salmon oil after you get the food switched over so you are not starting too many new things at once.

i got my puppy from a shelter one week ago, and boy does she stink. she was infested with flees, we gave her advantage, that took care of that. now i just want to wash her, but our vet said to wait a little longer......she stinks! i really want to wash her.

i have a 15 week old black lab / golden retriever mix that is having some dry skin issues. we got her from rescue and she's had dandruff since we got her. she eats science diet for puppies which is good quality food, and she is bathed with a perscription shampoo for sensitive skin. she still seems to be having dandruff. any suggestions? thanks!

Science Diet is not good quality, trust me I use to feed it. My dogs had no problems with it, but there is much better out there for less. SD is basically a bag of overpriced ground corn. I now feed Chicken Soup For The Dog Lover's Soul & it is cheaper & better for them. Also make sure you are not giving her a bath no more than once-twice a month. Once a week is WAY too much. You can also try adding eggs to her diet which are very good for the skin & ; coat. Put one egg over her food daily.

basically what i am asking for is what type of food in a grocery store not a pet store is the best food for my puppy, he has dry skin/flaky. but i am also giving him this formula called (healthy skin and coat lipiderm for dogs) i bought it from petco.

My puppy had the same problem and the vet told me to give him a bath weekly with an oatmeal shampoo, to get a humidifier and switch dog food. I am currently feeding him Nutro Natural Choice which has done wonders for his coat and skin! I am also giving him a bath weekly with and all natural shampoo and this is really helping! Hope this helps.
