    Q. How to keep flees of my dog?

To keep the flees of your dog you also need to keep the flees of your house. Many people would recommend frontline but many studies have shown that frontline only kills the adult flees and it does nothing against the larvae and the cocooned flee eggs that are, most of the times, the main problem. Also, a flee shampoo is also a temporary solution because it only kills the surface flees on your dogs fur, they will probably be back after two hours once the bath is over. The main concern of a dog owner, when he gets flees, should be cleaning the house and getting rid of the flees that now live on your floor, your rugs and even your sofas. The major concern here are the eggs and the larvae that can lead to a major issue and they hide in all sorts of cracks in your floor and in your rugs. The flee cocoons are very resistant and there are not many products that can kill those. The best way is to elaborate a program that includes killing the adult flees by using a product that not only kills the adults but prevents their eggs form hatching and the larvae form spinning their cocoons. A good product for this is Ovitrol spray. Spray in on your floors and rugs and watch out for the new hatching larvae; once they hatch spray them again. Give your dog Sentinel tablets, those will sterilize the fleas in him. Vacuum your house regularly and put some Ovitrol spray on the vacuum cleaners bag to kill the larvae in it. Make sure all your other pets are treated with the Ovitrol and the Sentinel as well. Vera Oak 555863

    Q. If i bath my dog after i applied the flee drops?
will i wash off the medication? i am not talking bath right after the medication, say after one week?

one week will be plenty of time for your dog to have absorbed all the meds.

    Q. Why does my dog keep getting flees?
my dog, a yorkshire terrier (yorkee) keeps getting flees. ive sprayed here everywhere including top of the head and around the nose with flee-killing spray, and then right after, bath her with flee-killing shampoo. i leave her in the bathroom with the shampoo all over so that it can take affect and bath her and make sure all of the flees are gone. but then, two days later, she gets flees again, and this has happened three or four times already. what do i do?!?

The fleas are living in the house and yard. They're in your carpet, furniture and lawn. You have to treat the whole house, and the whole yard. AND You have to repeat the treatments once a week for a month to kill all the hatchling babies. If you don't do the repeat treatments, hatchlings will repopulate the areas and you'll be back at square 1. Best thing to do is call an exterminator. They can knock down the infestation so you can control it with Frontline. ALSO: Those sprays don't work. Fleas can bathe in those products and be just fine. You need more potent chemicals. Exterminators are your best bet. Get Frontline from your vet. DO NOT use the over the counter flea products. They can be deadly.

    Q. I called the vet and my dog might be allergic to flees?
he is itching, scratching, biting. so they suggested (before taking him in there) to give him a soothing bath. well i have a problem because he hates baths. does anyone have any idea or tricks on giving their dogs baths?

It's hard to give your dog a bath at home if he doesn't like them, and you don't have all the proper equipment. An easy alternative would be to find a groomer in the area and ask how much it is to bathe dogs. Usually for just a bath they run about $15-$25 dollars based on how heavy or what breed your dog is. They can also clip your dogs nails and clean out his ears while they're at it. :) When I was younger, I would get my dogs leash and tether him to the pole on the fence in my backyard. Then I'd hose him down and bathe him! He couldn't run away so he had to deal with it. If it's a smaller dog, you can try purchasing a grooming loop from a pet supply store and hooking him up to your sink some way. (Grooming loops look like this: http://www.jemarpet.com/images/GroomingLoopCT418.gif) A lot of dogs are allergic to fleas and if they are, there will be a lot of tiny red bumps on his skin, where the flea bites have irritated the skin. It's the flea's saliva that the dog is allergic to. Before you can give him a soothing bath, however, you have to make sure the fleas are gone. If you haven't already, a flea preventative like revolution or frontline plus can kill fleas as soon as they bite, but it takes a while for them to go away because it doesn't repel them. K9 Advantix repels and kills fleas, so you may want to look more into that than the others, since it will keep fleas away, and if they do jump on him, they die. This will keep him from getting the bites, if that is what he's allergic to. Sorry for writing a novel, I'm just trying to assess every topic in your question. :D And lastly, good shampoos to use for soothing the skin is an oatmeal and sulfur-based shampoos. Sulfur-based shampoos are normally dubbed "Medicated Shampoos", and they are best if used with a rubber mitt in the bath. I would recommend just an oatmeal shampoo, though. Just make sure you let it sit for a couple minutes while it's in the bath. Good luck!

    Q. Why is my dog itching with no flees?
i have a shi zu,,,sorry spelling wrong...i never see flees, but he's always scratching..i shave him in the summer, but now it's cold..we live in chicago area..i bathe him in flee bath, this doesn't work...his hair now is about 1 inch long , very thin hair. if he had flees, i'm pretty sure i could see them. but i don't......why is he scratching so much?

DO NOT TRY A DIFFERENT SHAMPOO! shampoo is very bad for the skin, and is causing this dryness. Ask your vet, they will say NO SHAMPOO. Dog shampoo advertises, but it is just to make you think that it is great. Sure, it shines the coat, and makes your dog smell great, but it is very irritable to the dog's skin. Water, water, water for the dog's shower. Dry your dog with a towel thoroughly after the shower to skip the doggy wet smell.

    Q. My dog has flees really bad and i dont know wat 2 do?
so we rescued this puppy on the side of the road and it has big mounds flees its now a inside dog and we have did 2 flee baths but it just brings the flees out it dont kill them... wat is a cheap and easy way 2 get them out....

1st, bring it to the Vet to get it checked. 2nd, if the pup is way too young, then it's not safe to put any kind of spot on like Frontline PLUS & other brands. Flea & tick shampoo does not really work, unfortunately. I heard that some people use dish washing soap to protect the dogs from fleas. Not sure if that works but you could try but ask the doctor's advice & opinion 1st. Also, don't keep the pup in your house yet because you & your house could get infested with fleas & that's not good. The fleas will live in dark places like your roof, under your bed, couch, in the store room & even in wall cracks. Your house has to be fumigated after that. So try to confine it outside your house 1st till it's treated & is disease free before allowing it in the house. I do this with all my rescue dogs & some will even stay outside confined for 1 month long while being treated with medication so that my dogs do not get infected with whatever disease the dogs have & so that no ticks will pass onto them as well. Hope this helped.

    Q. We have treated our dogs with the flee treatment that lasts one month and one still has flees. what to do?
we have three dogs and only one still has flees. i could not apply it very well when because the dog wouldn't stay still, but i don't want to apply another one because it specifies not to apply it more than once per month on the box. i don't really have the funds to take him to the vet or to have a proper flee bath done by a professional. any suggestions?

What flea treatment did you use? If it was over the counter, chances are it was worthless. Get some real flea prevention from your vet and treat your environment.

    Q. But i have a dog.. so if we give him a flee bath..will that kill all the flee's and keep them away?
so now that i know it won't stay on me, im a bit less paranoid..but i have a dog and im worried that he will get them...if i give him a flee bath..will that kill the flee's he may have and also keep them away? btw. thanks for all the answers on the last question and the answers for this.

It depends on the shampoo you use. Most shampoos will only kill the fleas. If you want to prevent them and keep them away, you should buy a product like Frontline. You squeeze the ointment in between his shoulder blades once a month and it keeps fleas and ticks away

    Q. How can i get rid of the dogs flees?
my dog jake has flees bad. hes eating at his skin and its so raw he is starting to loose his fur. the vet said give him frontline and we've been doing that and giving him baths in flee and tick shampoo and its not helping him. he also wears a flee collar. the cats have flees too but not as bad as the dog.

In addition to the medicine you have to remember to get them out of your carpets and fabrics as well. The eggs fall off the dog and hatch in these places, so vacuum like 3 or 4 times a week wherever they hang out and wash their beds constantly. This will help more than you think!
