There is a very simple procedure to know that your bath tub is made up of the cast iron or not as follows.. 1.. yoiu just bring a magnet and then put the magnet on the bath tub. as a result if the bath tub is made up of the iron then the magnet will stick to the bath tub. other wise the magnet will slip from the bath tub.

No so much a website because there are vast regional and condition price differences. But, I can tell you that you will get a better price selling it on the secondary market by contacting architectural salvage companies to see what they will pay you. Many of us use them to find difficult to obtain items for specific clients and projects, so many times they already have a buyer and know what it is worth. for the condition it is in, the age and manufacturer.

Keep in mind that a cast iron tub that is room temperature, takes more hot water to warm it, but it stays warm once it is heated. The other thing to consider is ease of access. Cast iron tubs are extremely heavy, and difficult to carry to a second floor. Personally, I would buy a fiberglass unit.

what actually goes into getting it out of the house? we want to update our bathroom and get rid of it. we will be knocking the tile tub surround out before we remove the tub (because that needs to be completely redone as well), so the tile is not an issue. how much do cast iron tubs weigh? my dad says 300 lbs. but i don't see how people would be able to get them out of their homes if they weighed that much.

300 is about right.....when we do it we tape it off with duct tape and take a 12 lbs sledge hammer to it and bust it into smaller pieces.... lic. gen. contractor

we replaced the walls around the shower/tub area with a new laminate product. later found that the glue used to replace them was also all over the floor of the bath tub and dried like concrete! there are some large lumps in spots that now make only showering comfy. caulk is also in some spots of the tub bottom. it's an original 1950's cast iron tub that the enamel was in excellent shape until this disaster. please advise me!

W-D 40 will dissolve some adhesives. You might give it a try before resorting to more costly measures.

it's cast iron and 50 years old, and supposedly valuable. it's in mint condition, except for the drain. it was made in louisiana, kentucky by the company america standard. if you have any idea how much we could sell it for now, please let me know. thanks. ^_^

We took one out of our 1947 house and it wasn't worth the gas to drive it to recycle. May be worth something to someone trying to refurbish an old house to look original. Call your local salvage yard to get the recycle value or put it on Craig's List.

check for rust and lime scale and other bacteria and see if there is any cracks in it and that the drainage system works too. good luck.
