Q. How often should i bathe my dog if he has fleas?

"You want you dog to be without fleas and you don`t want fleas for..."

Better buy some medication for fleas because it is faster way you can get rid of fleas. Water don`t take fleas off your dog. Of course there is some shampoos that can hepl but it is not so efective. So if you want you dog to be without fleas and you don`t want fleas for yourself go to the vet and ask for appropriate medication that can help to your dog. Good luck :) Judith Foster

Q. What can i bathe a dog in to instantly kill fleas?
i don!t want to wait a few days. he is suffering today.

"You then bathe your dog to remove the dead fleas..."

To get all the fleas off - and dead - you need to get a pill called CAPSTAR from your vet, this will have all the fleas off fast. You then bathe your dog to remove the dead fleas. You PREVENT fleas by putting a good, name brand preventative on your dog every single month - Frontline Plus or Advantix keeps fleas and ticks off your dog - put that on him every month without fail. Cheap stuff like harz or onspot does NOT work and can harm your dog - same with flea collars, shampoos, etc.   Dawn liquid can cause major damage if it gets in the dogs eyes or he swallows some - causes burn s of the esophagus and stomach.   It may be useful to get tar and oil off seabirds and such when there's an oil spill, but it's ridiculous to use on dogs when preventatives work so much better. You will need to make sure fleas in the home are gone - wash all dog bedding and vacuum your sofas and rugs, then throw away the bag. Get Capstar to immediately get the fleas off, then use a preventative like Frontline Plus or Advantix every month, that kills fleas and prevents eggs and larvae from hatching. This is not the place to try to save money, unless you like fleas on your dog and in your home --- get something that really works and use it every month.

Q. When can i bathe my dog after putting on flea treatment?
i put on my dog flea treatment yesterday is it alright if i bathe my dog tomorrow? how long do you have to wait until you can bathe????? and my dog poo colour is black and really wet. is this bad? am i feeding him something wrong? i feed puppy dry food and wet food as well. what is wrong with him?

"When it is safe to bather the dog or let him get wet..."

You should always speak to a vet about black stools or persistent diarrhea. Black stools often have blood in them from high up in the digestive tract. Persistent diarhhea is often a sign of disease or parasites. The package for the flea treatment should have instruction on it regarding when it is safe to bather the dog or let him get wet . If you don't have the package, 3 days is usually sufficient to wait.

Q. Any suggestions to get rid of my dog's fleas?
i've tried advantage, spray my house at least once a week, have sprayed the yard several times and put out granules, bathe my dog with flea and tick shampoo, she has a flea collar, and she still gets fleas within a couple of days. this is getting ridiculous. what else should i be doing? should i just call a professional to come spray and see if that helps? or is she just going to have to live with fthe fleas?

I don't advise flea collars. I have tried everything (seriously) and K-9 Advantix seems to work the best!

Q. Should i bathe my dog in warm or cold water to get rid of fleas?
if i let her sit in there for about 15-20 mins, do you think it'd work? i'd like to get rid of all the fleas so i can treat her hot spots.

"Water won't kill the fleas..."

Water won't kill the fleas, whether it is warm or cool. Warm water will make her shed more. You need a flea shampoo - but don't use one if you've been using other flea products like Frontline or flea collars. Mixing toxic chemicals can kill your dog.

Q. I am breastfeeding my 3 week old and my dog has fleas... is it ok for me to bathe the dog in flea shampoo?
i know you may say... wear gloves. easier said than done. water still gets in the gloves, exposing my skin to the flea shampoo. i used frontline and it didn't work at all. so i wanted to try some flea shampoo but i am afraid the poison may get into my skin and then into my breast milk. does anyone know if this would be true?

"It would probably be pretty toxic to your dog as well..."

Anything that goes into your body goes through a lot of "processing" before getting into your milk, if it ever does. Many things don't pass because the amount mom is exposed to is so low, or the molecules are too big to pass into the milk, etc. How you are exposed also makes a difference - through the skin it must cross MANY more barriers than through ingesting it. Few chemicals pose a danger topically (certain topical steroids are among the few iffy things, and those are made to be absorbed well through the skin). While it is certainly possible that minute amounts could pass into your milk, it's unlikely that even IF it did that it would pose any harm at all. On top of that it would have to be compared to the risks of artificial feeding. I cannot imagine that a flea shampoo on the skin would outweigh those risks. If it did, it would probably be pretty toxic to your dog as well. In other words, it's safe, so don't worry and keep nursing. Or you can use it as an excuse to make someone else wash the dog. ;) And congrats on nursing your baby, keep up the great work! :D Also, here's a great link to check out if you have any other concerns in the future: http://kellymom.com/health/index.html

Q. How often should i bathe my dog with flea shampoo?
i got a 9 month old beagle about a week ago & noticed he was itching a lot so i assumed he has fleas.i went out and bought some flea shampoo & on the bottle it says it is effective for 10 days...does that mean i have to wash him every week & a half until the itching stops? is is ok for his skin to get shampooed this much? also, if his skin does dry out, what can i use to rub in his fur and make it better? thank you!

"(make sure not to bathe him for the period recommended by frontline..."

Even if you used the shampoo already, still use the Front line stuff. You can get it at the vet's. It works amazingly well.... It's all I've ever used, and then just vacuum thoroughly. (make sure not to bathe him for the period recommended by Frontline). Good luck!

Q. Can i bathe my dog with flea shampoo if she is nursing pups?
the pups have gotten a few fleas from mom. the pups are only 3 days old. i am concerned about bathing mom with anything toxic right now. when can i bathe the pups? how can i control the fleas on the pups? help!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Brushing and combing to get the fleas out of her coat..."

Absolutely not..Sorry, but there is not much you can do for mom yet, other than bathing, brushing and combing to get the fleas out of her coat.. You can safely give her a bath with Dawn or Ivory dish soap, or Ivory bar soap...Leave the soap on for at least 5 minutes, and then rinse very well..Use 1/4 cup of vinegar or lemon juice in the last gallon of rinse water..This will kill all of the fleas that are on her, but she will soon have them again from her surroundings.. You have to bathe right after the puppies have nursed, and get her completely dry and back to the puppies within 2 hours..That's a big chore.. Or, you can call your vet to get a flea control that is safe for her and the babies.. But, if you use the flea shampoo on her at this time, I can guarantee it will kill the babies..You can't rinse it all off, as enough will absorb in her skin to poison the puppies..

Q. How often should i bathe my dog for the fleas and ticks.?
i first noticed ticks on my dog about 2months ago when i saw my dog itching. so i started using tweezers to take the ticks off. that was going okay but then one day i had about 4 bites on each leg i know it wasn't the ticks and that it had to be fleas. i bought front-line plus and applied it to my dogs and nothing happened. no ticks died or went fleeing from the scene. i bought capstar, and still nothing. then i gave them each a bath and let them each soak for about 10 minutes and that really helped. instead of itching every minute, it would be like every 20 minutes expect for my dog emo, he has longer fur than the rest and itches every 10 minutes. so i was wondering how often i should bathe them, and how long they should each soak. i have a boxer ,clyde, a pit-bull,blue, and an australian shepherd/german shepherd/lab mix ,emo. i waited about 2 week after applying the frontline plus before giving them a bath. i waited another week after that to give them the capstar. does petsmart give flea dips? and do flea dips help repel fleas?

"As it can poison your dog..."

how long after the frontline did you wash the dogs? you have to wait 48 hours before or after a bath to apply a topical flea and tick treatment. you should not do flea baths more than once every two weeks, and not in conjuntion with a topical flea or tick medicen, as it can poison your dog. Use revolution or advantage multi, wait a couple days, for the meds to take effect, and fumigate your house and spray your yard for parasites.
