Q. Does ram need to be used to maximize speed?

i just recently bought a 1 gb kingston ram for my laptop which used to have a 512 ram. i noticed that the 1 gb was faster than the 512 mb but when watching a live streamed video it looked like the 512 mb was better because it didn't lag like the 1 gb. maybe it was the video being streamed or what? the 512 mb ram is actually ramaxel which i guess is cheap.

Q. Dell dimension 3000, do i need ram? monitor suggestions?

i had a friend clean this old computer, it works fine, just want to get videos and audio streaming faster. is it ram i need? where can i find the best deals? i've heard it's the easiest thing to install too, but don't know how, so how do i do that? also, what's the best monitor out there, looking for something more than 20". thanks!

Q. Problems playing videos on laptop (need someone with good computer knowledge)?

my toshiba satelite laptop cannot handle playing videos very well. the computer is not extremely old and i already used the recovery disk so there aren't any viruses or spyware so its running pretty well. the problem isn't exactly with playing dvd-videos, its more with playing video files and streaming video online. the problem isn't with my internet connection because its fast and i can't play video files off my hard drive either. the problem i have is that the videos play and all but they skip a lot. they also make my computer run really slow. even when i'm playing small 20 second videos. someone made a good suggestion that i should try going into the computers setup and changing how much memory is used for video but i can't find that option. here's the specs: operating system: windows xp professional sp2 system model: toshiba satellite 1800 processor: intel pentium iii, ~1.1ghz memory: 240mb ram video card name: trident video accelerator cyberblade xp ai1 display memory: 16mb first of all, where it says 240mb under specs that is ram memory not hard drive memory, folks. just wanted to make that clear. alsom, the answers that i'm getting require me to buy extra parts. i'm looking for a way of tweaking settings or something in that form. even if i wanted/needed to upgrade my graphics would that be possible with a laptop. i didn't know that the toshiba laptop that i have could be modified like that?

Q. How much ram do i need on a new notebook?

i am shopping for a notebook and am looking at basic entry level ones to supplement my desktop which will be used as the primary computer. most of the entry notebooks are running around 2ghz processors. my main use for the notebook is basic office applications and internet (including video streaming). i won't be using the notebook for gaming or video editing etc. the entry level notebooks generally come with 500 ram. is that enough or should i upgrade and if so how much would you rec? tia

Q. Will increasing from 384mb ram to 512mb increase video playback on 750mhz laptop?

i have an older gateway solo 5300 laptop with pentium 3 750mhz and 384mb of ram. if i upgrade to 512mb of ram (which is max for my laptop) will it increase the performance of streaming video? do i need to upgrade the video card? is it even possible to upgrade the video card for this old laptop? would it be better to upgrade to the 900mhz or to upgrade the ram in order to get better live streaming video quality? i know some of you will say that it depends on my internet connection speed but i know it's not that because i download at anywhere from 600kb to 1.5mbps and my brother's new laptop plays streaming video perfectly using my wireless laptop connection via sbc yahoo broadband. thanks!

Q. What would my minimum cpu/ram needs be for diy media pc that just views boxee and hulu?

i'd just like to add the ability to put streaming video services like boxee and hulu on my tv along with internet radio. would a 2ghz cpu and 1gb ram get the job done? i don't need hd and i'm happy with 2-channel audio (don't need dolby 5.1, 7.1, etc.) side note: i'll probably be running ubuntu linux for this setup, if that matters.

Q. Advice on laptop spec needed to watch live video stream?

looking to get a new laptop. not a lot of money to throw at it. mostly be used for internet (email, general surfing, and live video streaming/tv), listening to music, watching dvds and office docs. not knowing much about computers i figure the bare minimum would be 1.5ghz processor, 1gb ram, 40gb hdd, cdrw/dvd, wi-fi. but guess that 2ghz+ (dual core) , 2gb ram would be much better. any advice or suggestions? £500 ($900) is the most i can spend, would like to spend as little as possible. thanks
