Q. Is it possible to watch hd movies in this pc? i'll get a new pc this week but im not sure if the display can play full hd movies. i mean hd 1080p,, if not, can u give me some 22" full hd displays examples
-intel core 2 quad 6600
-4gb ram 800mhz
-22 inches hp display w2207-- wsxga+ (1680x1050dpi)
dvi and vga port.
- double dvi port nvidia gtx260- hdtv ready
ive heard displays must have at least 1080 lines of vertical resolution in order to play full hd movies but im not sure
"As far as a computer that can play back blu-ray dvds at full 1080p..."
Full 1080-progressive-scan high-definition resolution is 1920x1080.
That HP monitor cannot display full 1080p HD.
As far as a computer that can play back Blu-Ray DVDs at full 1080p, you don't need a brainbusting quad-core CPU or a super-3D gamers card. As a matter of fact, such a computer requires so many cooling fans, the ridiculous droning fan noise will make it hard for one to enjoy the audio from the Blu-Ray playback.
That's why experienced HTPC builders go for quiet, cool-running components that are good enough to do the job-- Wolfdale C2D CPU with a slow-fan heatsink, Intel G45-chipset motherboard with HDMI on-board (yes, using integrated graphics to cut down on heat, thus less fan noise), and a Blu-Ray drive. All on an ultra-quiet slow-fan 380W Seasonic S12 PSU. Such a system can already do an excellent job of Blu-Ray DVD playback.

Q. Why can't i watch hd movies smoothly? here are my specs: amd athlon 64 4000 2,2 ghz dual core cpu, sapphire 8600 gt, 3 gb ddr2 ram, 250 gb 7200rpm seagate hdd.
i think i should be able to watch all 1080p videos very smoothly with this system. but i always get framerate problems and voice goes out of sync after a few seconds of watching. but my wd tv hd media player runs the videos just fine. how can i solve this problem?
You need to give the player more priority.
To do this, press Ctrl+Alt+Del, choose to start Task Manager, (the player needs to be open) find the player on the list of programs and right click it and choose "Go to process", then right click the highlighted process and go to "Set Priority", then set it to "Above Normal", then select "Change Priority".
If that doesn't work, try another suggestion.

Q. How much video card ram do i need if i have a full hd screen(1920x1080)? i want to play games and watch movies in hd. the video card is ati mobility radeon hd4650. the processor is an intel dual core 2.53 ghz, and i have 4gb system ram. is 1 gb of v-ram enough?
"Very strong video card that can handle graphic intensive games at higher resolutions and..."
Video RAM generally doesn't matter too much; especially if you are not gaming. A very strong video card that can handle graphic intensive games at higher resolutions and at higher FPS will be able to put the extra video RAM to good use. For example, when the 8800GTS 320MB came out, it was usually around the strength of the 640MB version. That was until there were games that took advantage of the new memory and the power of the 8800GTS. If you are gaming and playing graphic intensive games, you will take a noticeably bigger hit than if you had more video RAM if you had a stronger card. It doesn't effect the performance if the video card is weak, though.
However, a HD4650 will not be able to use 1GB of V-RAM. Also, "Video memory" is being shared between the RAM and the video card as HD4650's don't have 1GB of laptop versions, hindering the card even more.
So, it should be enough. If anything will hold the performance back, it will be the video card itself rather than it's RAM.
I hope that helps!

"It also support vdpau under linux and xbmc linux can use this feature..."
Radeon 4650 for $50 - has HDMI

Or Nvidia 9400 GT for $40 w/ HDMI - likely the best choice as it has PureVideo 3 (Full GPU 1080p HD decoding) and 16 CUDA cores. It also support VDPAU under Linux and XBMC linux can use this feature.

Q. Why does my cpu usage reach 100% when watching hd movies and converting video? this never happened before. i used to be able to watch hd films in any player (be it vlc or media player classic) for hours on end with no problem. now, whenever i do, i open task manager and see that cpu usage spikes at insane levels when watching hd content. it doesn't stay at 100% the entire time, but it reaches it and never goes lower than 50-60%. this practically makes hd content utterly unwatchable. the screen freezes, pixelates and goes into really bad slow-motion. the audio is fine though. another thing is that converting video takes up 100% of my cpu usage. i have used videora ipod converter for years now to watch videos in my ipod. it has never given me any problem whatsoever. a fifteen-minute video would take around four to seven minutes to convert if i remember correctly. now, when i convert the same video, it takes around thirty to forty minutes to convert while using 100% cpu for the entire time.
my computer just got fixed by the way. a few weeks ago it overheated and the motherboard apparently stopped recognizing the hard disk drives (i couldn't access any of my files after that). eventually it stopped recognizing drive c: so they needed to reinstall vista all over again. apparently the reason it overheated was because the inside of the cpu was so dirty, trapping heat inside. we had it cleaned up so now it's all fine... except for what i mentioned above.
no other programs or activity results in my pc to use 100%. not even using photoshop does this. i have 2.00 gb worth of ram but i also noticed that about 50% of it is used (0.98 - 1.00 gb) when i use firefox alone. i'm not sure if this is normal either. can anyone help?

Q. Why is hd playback choppy (both streaming & after downloading the content onto my computer)? i thought it was due to the age of my system but an answerer to my previous question said the following: "before i switched to mac, i used a single core laptop with 2gb ram to edit movies, watch hd videos on youtube and more"
my system has the following specs and i'm reasonably sure it doesn't have any virus/fragmentation/registry issues:
athlon xp 1700+
32mb geforce card
1.5gb ddr1 pc2700
3.0gb att dsl
15 inch non-hd monitor
i recently had somebody give me a 256mb geforce 9200 card and i thought it might improve hd playback but it was still pretty much just as choppy so i put my 32mb card back since i'd been happy with it.
is a single-core cpu really fine for hd but mine is just too slow? of course i won't get hd resolution on a non-hd monitor but shouldn't it at least be smooth? what's the problem with my system?
thanks!
i forgot: 40gb 7200rpm drive with unknown buffer size
"Dual channel (a good 50% boost in memory speed..."
A lot seems marginal for your system to run HD. Even a 9200 card, though better, may not have the horsepower to fully render HD at full frame rates. That, along with a slow processor, has problems keeping the video card full of data for rendering. 1.5GB memory is usually ok, but if your motherboard is dual channel memory design, you may be suffering a performance hit on memory if it's not in pairs. Many boards will run mixed memory, but at the slowest speed, and you lose a lot of memory bandwidth if not running dual channel (a good 50% boost in memory speed )
Finally, your disk drive and interface may also be a small limiting factor.
Add all these up, and you may not have enough to run HD. Maybe someone with a similar system can verify if they can get it to work, and what they have....
A 32MB video card definitely does not have enough power to render HD....
