Bridgett | I guess you should wash your dog onece a week it should be enough. But you should to keep an eye on him all the time how clean it is or how smelly :) Sometimes dog likes to get smelly so that means you should wash him an extra time. But if he lives only inside you shouldn`t wash him often because he can`t get dirty and don`t smell so much as dogs who lives outside.

Brushed or combed daily, bathed twice a month (mainly because they sleep on the bed) They have broken coats, short to medium scruffy. They are terrier mixes and relatively small (one is 16 lbs, one is 28 lbs)
I use a gentle puppy shampoo and a creme rinse / conditioner, as well as a leave-in conditioner. I feed them good food (Innova), fish oil supplements and flax seed to help prevent dryness in their skin and coat.
They are active mud buddies, runners, hikers, and they mouth-play with each other alot.

My answer is not a recommendation for other people's dogs. As per the question, this is *my* regime for my dogs. :)
I always advise owners ask their dog's breeders as well as their veterinarians for recommended frequency of bathing their particular dog, supplements (if any), and preferred shampoos and conditioners.

A dog shouldn't be bathed any more than once every 6 weeks at most because you're stripping all the oils out of his coat as well as drying his skin every time you bath him. If he gets dirty, brush his coat and wash off his feet if need be but you're not doing him any good by bathing him so often.

Yes - you need to stop. Only wash him when he NEEDS washing - if he's been in the sea, etc. If he's a Cocker Spaniel as your last question suggested, this is probably why he sheds so much because you're making his coat really unhealthy. My girl normally only gets washed every month at the most, most mud etc. you can brush out, and you can get dog perfumes so they don't smell.

Dogs have very sensitive skin and bathing them to much will cause them to be very dry and itchy, which you don't want! You should avoid bathing them as often as possible, trying to narrowing it down to at least once every month (only when you really, really, really need to bathe them). The doggy whipes are actually a good replacment to wash dogs and can be used often. As long as they are mild, they should be fine to use whenever.

I would wash your dog 1 time every 2 weeks. No more then that though As to much can give a dog skin infection as it drys up the skin to much and effects the skin of the dog. Once a week is fine.
I suggest you either use dog shampoo. You can buy that at a pet store or maybe a grocery store. You can use human shampoo. But make sure you watch how much you use. Just enough to lather up his coat of hair. The shampoo with suave that human use. Try a shampoo with suave with a scent . Like strawberry or whatever. If you go to the dollar store or family dollar they have that for around $1:00.
Brushing the dog with a brush is a good idea. As it helps keep the hair from tangling. As dogs hair tangles.
Good Dog Trick: If your dog has ticks!!!! Try using a Q tip and dish washing detergent. Put the dish washing detergent on the Q tip and douche the tick on the dog. As you do that. The tick will most likely stick on the Q tip. As the dish washing detergent will cause a stickiness on the tick and plug it pores up and cause death to the tick. And ticks will let loose on the dog... when The Q tip and dish washing detergent is on the tick. Might suggest you take the Q-Tip with the tick in the toilet and flush it down the drain. Make sure the tick is dead. Even if you have to step on it on the floor with the Q-tip. That is ok. Better to be safe then sorry. Shake the Q tip with the tick in the toilet to make sure he is in the toilet. if the tick does not stick to the Q tip. when applied. use a paper towel and lift the tick off the dog ok?

You shouldn't need to bath this dog even once every 6 weeks. This is one of the breeds that doesn't get a "doggy" smell and bathing strips the oils from their coats and skin. They're also not fond of water and he'll be shivering himself to pieces until you get him dried with the blow dryer. My greyhounds, for example, only get bathed twice a year and even then they don't really need it.

Washing a dog with fleas really doesn't solve the problem. You should treat your dog with Advantage Multi or Frontline. You can get either of them at your local vet. Frontline protects from fleas and ticks. Advantage Multi protects from Fleas and Heartworm and other intestial parasites. You can buy Frontline with out your dog being there but you can not buy Advantage multi with your dog being current on a heartworm test. After you've treated your dog you need to treat the area and retreat it again in about 10 days when the eggs hatch. Fleas are hard to get rid of and the cycle will just keep going and going until you fix the problem.

You are overbathing which is why your dog's coat looks that way. Only bathe once a month at the most esp. for your breed. Shepherds really shouldn't be bathe more than once every 2-3mo.
Brushing is key to keeping shepherd clean & other dogs also. Let him dry out some then brush. You will be able remove the majority of dirt.Right now you need to brush daily to help stimulate his skin & spread his natural oils thru his coat. You have stripped away his lipid layer of protection & it is affecting the rest of his coat. Keeping the lipid layer is needed to maintain healthy coat growth. Switch your shampoo to a good gentle hypo shampoo which won't harm the dog' s hair. If you need to, you can touch up with waterless shampoo or pet or unscented baby wipes.
