Q. How many processors does xbox 360 have?

"The xbox 360 only has one single 64 bit ibm processor..."

The xbox 360 only has one single 64 bit IBM processor. This processor is divided into 3 cores, each having 3,2 ghz, thus 9,6 ghz in total. Other xbox 360 specs are: 500 mhz ati graphics card and 512 mb shared ram. Jack Russel

Q. Do i have to use an xbox brand wireless adapter for xbox live?

"The best adopter you can use is official adapter xbox 360..."

The best adopter you can use is official adapter xbox 360. Then you will need no drivers and it contains various games and original adapter as well.

Q. Just wondering if anyone can find out when the new 65nm processors for the xbox 360 are going to be sold?
just wondering if anyone can find out when the new 65nm processors for the xbox 360 are going to be sold?

Microsoft still hasn't released a date, but it is speculated that they will most likely be out in the 4th quarter of 2007, likely before the holidays.

Q. Can i put the xbox 360 processor in a computer?
does anyone know if its possible to put a xbox 360 processor in a computer and have it run like a computer running xp/vista or linux i was just wondering if its possible and if anyone has tried to. heres the specs of the xbox 360 processor * ibm powerpc 3 cores 3.2 ghz

"A triple-core processor called the xenon..."

Well, you ask a technical question, so you should expect a technical answer. *Technically*, the XBox 360 *is* a computer: it has a motherboard and CPU, hard drive(s), a DVD drive, an ATI Xenos graphics card with 512MB of RAM and runs a modified version of Microsoft's Windows operating system. However, the CPU is a modified version of an IBM PowerPC chip: a triple-core processor called the Xenon. I was not able to discover if it is interchangeable even within the XBox console (it may be soldered permanently to the motherboard), but even if you could pop it out, I do not know of a "standard" computer motherboard that would accept it, or if boxed copies of Windows would run on it. You'd have a better chance (but still no guarantee) of getting the (modified) Pentium-III chip out of an original XBox. However, with all of the P-4 and AMD-based alternatives out there, and prices as low as they are, there would seem to be little reason to do so. An interesting idea, but you'd likely have to have the skills and resources to build your own motherboard and a code license from Microsoft (to have access to the Windows source code, which would need to be modified for this "unexpected" CPU) in order to get it done. Is it "possible"? Yes. Is it *feasible*? No.

Q. Xbox 360 processor update is for early buyers or future buyers?
microsoft announced that they are going to release new xbox 360 processors which will won't produce very high temperature like the current one. so i want to know whether they are going to add this processors to the new manufactured xbox 360 or for the one who already bought? if it is for the early users as well then what will i do with my current processor; i can't throw it out? and if it is for the new buyer then it is not fair to the one who bought early.

"The best thing you can do for your xbox 360 (and really..."

The "new processor" is just a newer manufacturing process that creates the chip at a smaller scale (smaller means more room between the traces, which means more surface area for heat dissipation, which means it runs cooler). This is standard practice in the chip manufacturing market, to switch to newer smaller scale fab processes when they become available. It's not a "rip off" or "unfair" or anything like that -- it's just business. As for overheating 360s, while I really don't believe it's as widespread as the interwebs make it seem (the internet is a place for people to come together to share their bad stories, not their good ones), Microsoft has extended warranty support indefinitely for 360s with a 2005 build date. If your 2005-build 360 stops working, you can get it repaired or replaced for free by calling 1-800-4-MY-XBOX. That said, the best thing you can do for your Xbox 360 (and really, any video game console or other hardware) is to provide it with ample space for air circulation. That means not setting it on the floor with heavy shag carpetting, not closing it up in a media cabinet, making sure you have at least an inch of free space on all sides, etc. You should also consider doing the same for the power supply brick, though only a small batch of early launch consoles had power supply problems.

Q. Is it true that all the xbox 360 games to date only use 1 of the 3 processors?
i read the above question on a blog. some other questions are: 2) generally speaking, how much of the capacity of the 360 are current games using ( in specific terms )? 3) are there any games in production or for future release that utilize the hardware much better than recent releases?

"It's not 3 processors..."

There is always going to be games that utilize hardware much better than older ones, like God of War 2 for the PS2. It's not 3 processors, it's a triple core processor. Every single game will use all cores, the difference comes when the programmers actually develop threaded applications, which is when they are going to specify which core does what.

Q. Could you you use the xbox 360 processor on a regular computer?
hypothetically, if you took it out of the xbox and plugged it into your mother board also, would it be any good?

"The xbox 360 processor is a triple core at 3.2ghz per core..."

Brian it's not impossible but i don't see anyone actually doing this. The xbox 360 processor is a triple core at 3.2ghz per core. It's not slow by any means, so "The City" guy has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. The chip is connected by bga, this means that under the chip is a grid of solder points. You can not simply take the processor off and use it in a computer, you would have to modify it to be used in a socket. You would need a motherboard that would support the chip and some sort of adapter that you would solder the chip on. You could also use a socket that used pads instead of pins so it would be easier to mount to the motherboard. Doing all this would take so much money, time and knowledge that it's really not worth it. The only reason to do it would be to prove that it could in fact be done. After the hardware part of it the bios and the chipset driver would have to be comparable to control the new processor. I would imagine if you had to buy all the tools to do this you're going to be over the $1,000 mark fairly easy. You could easily buy an intel i5-661 which is one of intels current designs and pay $200 for a processor that will blow the 360's away. The i5-661 is a dual core that runs at 3.33ghz per core. It has a 4mb cache and uses the 32nm process. Here's a link to the i5-661 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115217&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Processors+-+Desktops-_-Intel-_-19115217 The xbox's processor used the 90nm processo for the first and second 360 chipsets and the 65nm process since the 3rd to current chipset. The smaller process produces less heat because they use smaller transistors and can pack more processing power in a smaller space. Anyway i hope this answers your question, if you have any other questions feel free to contact me via my yahoo answers profile.

Q. Does anyone know the processor speed of the xbox 360 as well as the processor memory?
i want to know th ghz processor speed of the xbox 360, and the processor memory, not the harddrive memory.

"Or processor memory..."

The Xbox 360 has a 3.2 GHz central processing unit (CPU) and a 500 MHz graphics processing unit (GPU). It has 512 MB of RAM, or processor memory

Q. Why did microsoft leave out the new processor on the xbox 360 elite ?
the new processor was supposed to keep the xbox 360 quiet compared to the old processor . why do they keep bringing out new models and do not fix the problems ?

Probably some corporate stuff. In my opinion, the Elite is a waste. All they've added is HDMI and a larger Hard Drive, which will be terribly overpriced when sold seperately (approx. $200 for 120 Gigs. Computer hard drives are 500 Gigs for the same price). They didn't even integrate HD-DVD! The black box is cool though.
