I took a needle and very carefully removed the small silver covering (there`s also a small piece of black cloth glued over it too) This will expose the mic opening without any obstructions muting the sound

The best way to boost your sound in widows 7 is to update the sound drivers. Easy, grab a few inches of clear sticky tape - push it onto the LCD back and pull off. Do this several times until screen is factory new! Any type of RUBBING is BAD, no matter WHAT chemicals or cloth is used you will SCRATCH the surface. I cant believe that rubbing in still out there. Electronic Optical fibre experts know that sticky tape removes all particles and grime. Try it you will NEVER use any other method. if you are using the windows xp as the operating system then you double click the sound icon which you can find on the right below taskbar beside the clock icon. now you can adjust the microphone level to up and low or even mute. so this is the proper way to adjust the microphone level. try yourself and do it.
