If they resemble black spots, simply wash the apples off, the black spots should come off. It generally is just fungi, which is entirely harmless to the apple, and you. But I don`t think it`d be very enjoyable to eat fungus, do you?

Thirdly, toxicity to the body can multiply by many, many times depending on which tissues of the body it is lodged. That doesn't mean that the fungus spots on apple skins are necessarily the scariest thing you could eat. Also, some of benefits of the natural defenses that plants have developed to insure their survival in the wilderness are "transferable" to humans when they eat these plants in their living states -- I suspect that may include the skin of an apple -- after all, the fungus does not turn the whole apple brown or black. This could be a matter of pH as the fruit matures or ripens and available sugars for the fungus to thrive upon. I've read books where this info is included but have not completed enough online research to be "an expert" yet. What I decided to do was peel my fruits for a period of time and then switch back (even though most nutritionists make note of the beneficial substances found in the apple skin). Sometimes, though, I will take an abrasive cloth or "fuzzy" sponge and GSE (grapefruit seed extract from the health store) or even a very mild bit of dish soap (Palmolive only, please) and scrub the surface -- the spots do come off if you wash. You can also run ozone through water in which the fruit is sitting (there are machines for this). The extra oxygen molecule will knock apart the toxins or pesticides and they will wash away much easier. Some apples will have spots that are still green or yellow -- while on others of the same variety, the spots will have turned brown. Notice this when in the store when you buy. Someday, I'll find out why -- but all the research I've read suggests that the less toxins we ingest the better, no matter what sort of toxin it is. People are advised all the time to eat the peels of fruit as long as it has been washed -- and most apples have these spots. Good question.
