i recommend you to please dont try to catch the flea from your dog as its a bad idea. your best option is to get a dog shampoo from somewhere in the market mart and give your dog a complete shower from that shampoo and repeat this process for 2 or 3 times a week. so the flea will be removed automatically from the dog

No people cannot be infested with fleas the way a family pet can fleas prefer to live in a pet`s cozy fur. But fleas can bite people.

Q. Can people catch fleas?

"Fleas can and do jump from animal to human..."

Yes, fleas can and do jump from animal to human. Be careful if your animal does have fleas because they will bite you. Usually when they bite, they bite a area like your legs. It usually looks like a ingrown hair, but really it is a flea bite, it will look red and swollen. My advice is to triple up on the flea prevention. Get your animal some flea shampoo, flea collar and the stuff that you put on their back. If that does not do the trick, you might have to fog your house. Good luck!

Q. Will my dog catch fleas off my other pets if i dont treat them all?
i have a staffy and i have been given it the best of everythin but my mum has a cat and another dog i want to get my dog flea treatment but i cant afford for all the animals if i get it for just my staff am i in trouble?

"Fleas can eventually kill a pet..."

Yep, waste of money. Fleas can eventually kill a pet. They all need to be treated. Please do not use OTC stuff, it does not work and can be harmful, even fatal to you pets. Let your mum know she is doing her pets an injustice by not getting rid of their fleas.

Q. Can humans catch dog fleas?
if so how do you know u have them and how do you rid them?

"If you don't physically see fleas but see flea dirt then your..."

Yes and No. Fleas actually prefer animals like a cat or a dog to feed off of. If a flea has a choice between your blood and the blood of your dog, they will choice your dog, but what happens is sometimes you can have an infestation of fleas so they will just jump on any host "Dog, cat, human" to get their meal. Best way to tell that you have fleas in your home is to look at your dog's tummy usually around the back end or even their butt itself. You can see one or two of two things: 1) Flea "Dirt". It's tiny hard pieces just like dirt on your dogs skin which is actually flea poop or 2) You will see little black dots almost move around which is the flea itself. Sometimes you will not see the flea itself but almost always see flea dirt. If you don't physically see fleas but see flea dirt then your animal or home has fleas. You could also try a flea comb or a lice comb. You can get them pretty cheap at any Pet store and some regular grocery stores have them. It's a small comb with the teeth small and very close together and then brush your dog with the comb. That's a good way to see fleas or flea dirt. So yes, fleas will bite humans but they do not prefer them. If you find fleas or flea dirt then you want to get your animal on some kind of flea preventative like Frontline, Revolution or Advantage. Maybe buy some flea shampoo and give your dog a bath but that only lasts a few days. Run your sweeper over the carpet. Everyday is usually the best option and if your vacuum has the bags that collect everything you sweep up, immediately throw the bag away when you are finished so the fleas can't get back into the house. One more tip that I found online awhile ago to get rid of fleas in your home is to leave one day for a few hours taking all your animals with you, close all windows and crank up your heat, usually around 90 or so degrees F. Fleas die in heat that high and it is suppose to bake them. Hope this helps

Q. Have you managed to catch fleas with a flea comb on your dog?
i brush my dogs with a flea comb, but i have never caught any fleas with it. it picks up flea poop, and is great for combing out loose hair, even ticks, but never a flea. i know my dog has fleas(note the flea poop), so that's not it. you who brush your dogs with a flea comb and actually catch fleas, what's your technique? how do you do it? do you do it in a definate pattern(e.g. head to tail). thanks in advance!

"You might have to trim the fur to comb effectively for fleas..."

You might have to trim the fur to comb effectively for fleas: http://www.fleascontrol.com/flea-combs.htm Another thing you can do is to comb while you're giving your dog a bath and dab some baby oil on the comb before you start combing through the fur. That will be sticky and make it harder for fleas to escape. However, combing is not a very effective way to get rid of fleas. It doesn't get rid of the eggs or the larva, which live around your house and not on the dog. You can read about all kinds of ways to get rid of them at: http://www.fleascontrol.com

Q. How did my dog catch fleas?
my dog only goes out to use it about 5 times a day and he is literally only out there for 2 mins. he recently started playing with my friends 2 dogs who are on frontline so can he still get it from them? i live in an apt so i go outside with him, i washed him and saw 4 fleas in the tub. i went and got flea shampoo and gave him zodiac flea control yesterday. well today i saw a flea on him. so i'm going to buy frontline plus tomorrow because it states it kills them in 24 hours. should i wait to give it to him?

"He can get fleas from anywhere..."

He can get fleas from anywhere. Many owners actually bring the fleas *with* them from outside. The fleas jump on any mammal that passes by and hops on the more preferred host (furrier mammals like dogs and cats) as soon as they find them. I've had clients come into the vet clinic I work at wondering how their ferrets or guinea pigs that live on the 2nd or 3rd story of an apartment get fleas when they never go out. Their human owners walk past plenty of lawns though! Try Advantage or Frontline.

Q. Can i catch fleas from my dog?
also, if i come into contact with another dog, will fleas attatch to my clothes and go onto the other dog? excuse me lyuben? what can i do to prevent it?

"If thats your dog..."

Thats possible, but they prefer dogs/cats. You'll be able to tell because you'll have nasty, itchy little bites (similar to mosquito bites) on your body. Change the bed sheets, wash your clothes if so. If thats your dog, get a flea stuff from the vet. If not, steer well clear of that dog!

Q. Can humans catch fleas from dogs? my friend's dog has fleas and now i itch everywhere.?
i almost want to spray the flea/tick spay on myself... help!! flea & tick spray.. never trust spell check!

"Them...they catch you..."

You don't really "catch" them...they catch you. A flea can snuggle into your sock, come home with you and infest your home in a very short time period. You will notice on your person that you have little red dots on your skin. DO NOT spray yourself with the flea-tick spray, it can make you sick. Here's what you do: Take the clothing you were wearing while at your friend's house..or your house....and wash it. Take a shower, making certain to wash your hair well. Shampoo up, leave the lather in as long as possible while finishing your shower and then rinse your hair. The longer the soap is on you, the better chance of killing off any fleas that might be hiding. Strip your bed, wash all bedding. (One flea, carried into your bed can turn your bedroom into a flea circus in no time.) You can buy cortizone cream to apply to the little red bites you have on your flesh to help stop the itching. Nix makes a good bed spray that you can spray on your mattress, couch and any other furniture.....and carpeting....to help get rid of the little buggers. As someone before me said, wear white socks and see if you end up with little black dots on them. If you do, you have been infested....you can also toss a white sheet down *use an OLD sheet** on the floor and see if you don't end up with it covered. IF you do, gather it up and put it in a garbage bag, tie it TIGHT and then take it down to the trash bin immediately! Do not keep it in your home. (Negative to what people seem to think, fleas can and will live on a human. Many homeless people and shelters deal with this problem due to the lack of access to bathing regularly. Fleas live on blood...they don't care where it comes from, as long as they get it) Be aware that you could actually be allergic to any flea medication your friend has used....and that is what is making you itch. ((As said before me aslo)) You can eat garlic....either raw, or in pill form. **You can find it in the vitamin section in most stores** (You can also give it to your pets....it helps keep fleas off them too. So will the pill form of brewer's yeast. <---tastes icky but does help) Vacuum your home thoroughly....removing the bag and again, tieing it tightly inside a garbage bag and removing it from your home immediately. (Fleas jump, they will hop out of a vacuum bag because there is no true sealer to stop them from coming back out once sucked up) Good luck and I hope its just a couple flea bites and your mind messing with you....over being infested.

Q. Your dog playing with other dogs and catching fleas?
i was wondering, if any of you could share you stories, have you ever had a bad experience with your dogs playing with other dogs, at the park or family member's house? have they ever caught anything from them? im kinda scared of taking my dog near other dogs because of fleas, and diseases.

"Dogs can catch fleas from playing with other dogs..."

Dogs can catch fleas from playing with other dogs, but don't worry its easy to prevent that from happening. You need to treat your dog with a good flea prevention product such as Frontline or a product from your vets. If you apply the treatment as recommended (usually every 6 - 8 weeks) if your dog does pick up a flea it will be dead by the time it comes into your house. Fleas are only usually a noticeable problem if the house is infested. I treat my dog with prescription flea treatment every two months and he has never caught fleas despite coming into contact with other dogs all the time.

Q. Guinea pigs can catch cat/dog fleas... right?
my guinea pig lives in a c&c cage on the floor.. and my cat has fleas, he's been scratching a lot lately and it isn't mites, he has no fur loss, no flakey skin etc etc, i know what mites looks like my other had it. so could it be cat fleas? or is it a different "breed" of flea that guinea pigs get...? can they even get fleas? i don't know! lol or is scratching common... could it be something else like the bedding? (i use carefresh)

"Or hair then yes it can get fleas..."

Hello, :] If it can walk and and it lives with fur or hair then yes it can get fleas . It is good that it is showing no signs right now, just keep watching for a few days and see what goes on. *My guinea pig scratches and it is not sick with parasites or anything!* There is no other diffrent kind of breed of fleas asept tone kind! Yes Guinea pigs CAN get fleas. Yes a little scratching is common. Accutley yes it could be the bedding. Just change to a less dustier bedding. Because Carefresh does carry a lot of dust. Good luck :] Guinea-pig-mother!
